Our second day in Venice, we enjoyed sleeping in! After eating a quick breakfast, we headed straight to the post office to mail some cards back home!
After that, we set off to tour Doge's Palace. From the windows, we caught some amazing views of St. Mark's Basilica.
And of the canal!
The palace was cool, but it would have been better with a guided tour or a Rick Steves' guide. After a while, it felt like we were looking at the same stuff over and over again. There were some unique paintings and architecture, though, which we greatly enjoyed.
Next, we found a nice photo op:
And then, we enjoyed more of the beautiful Venetian scenery.
We decided that we wanted to take a trip to one of the other islands like Murano (where the glass-blowing takes place), but when we arrived at the vaparetto station, there were no vaporettos in sight. It turned out, there was a 24 hour strike! So, we couldn't go anywhere. Luckily, this didn't happen on the day we traveled to Milan! Or, the day we traveled into Venice! It was actually perfect timing. So, instead of taking the vaporetto to an island, we just explored more of venice. We took a traghetti across the canal, which was fun! Traghetti are inexpensive "shuttle" boats that you can take across certain parts of the canal where there are no bridges.
We spent the rest of the afternoon exploring,
and eating gelato!
We enjoyed a lovely pizza dinner right on one of the canals!
And finally, to say goodbye to Venice, we enjoyed listening to the orchestras in St. Mark's Square!
