We left Nice extremely early (we had to wake up at 4 AM) so that we could spend a full day in Venice. To get to Venice from Nice, we took a short (one hour), economical easyJet flight. We enjoyed the flight, and finally had almost no travel troubles! (although it was unnecessary that my fingernail file was confiscated at security)
Fortunately, Jamie knew exactly what we needed to do when we arrived in Venice, which was to go to the Hello Venezia counter to purchase a Rolling Venice card (a discount card for young people), and a pass that would give us unlimited access to transportation for the duration of our visit. The Rolling Venice card allowed us to purchase the transport pass for a discounted price, as well as gave us discounts on some shopping, restaurants, and tourist attractions in Venice.
After purchasing our passes, we took a bus from the airport to the train station in Venice, where we boarded a San Marco bound vaporetto. As we rode, we enjoyed listening to the Rick Steves' canal tour. It was the perfect introduction to Venice!
Upon arriving at San Marco, we headed straight for our guest house. We were very hot, tired, and ready for some air conditioning, which is hard to find in Venice!
Our room was small, but had a large king size bed,
cool views of the Venice streets,
and a small but functional bathroom.
After a morning nap, we hit the square!
It felt amazing to be in St. Mark's Square!
Although, it was HOT!
We hoped that we could cool off a bit by touring the museums, but there is no air conditioning anywhere in Venice!
We continued enjoying the square, anyways!
St. Mark's Basilica was next to tour. We paid extra to visit the museum and balcony at the top. It was well worth it! To tour the cathedral, we listened to the Rick Steves' guide, which was informative and interesting.
The view from the top was so much fun!
After the cathedral, we headed back to our room for some air conditioning time. We really needed it! Here is Jamie at the entrance to our building:
Such a tiny door! After resting for a bit, we headed out for dinner early, and stopped to enjoy canal views and shopping along the way!
Our dinner reservations at daMamo did not disappoint!
We enjoyed a wonderful meal.
After dinner, we enjoyed more walking along the canals, gelato, and getting lost on the streets of Venice!
